Large Walk-In Closet In A Mess? 3 Tips To Get It Organized

Posted on

If you have a large walk-in closet that is a mess this can make it difficult to find clothes and other items you need. Fortunately, there are things you can do to get the closet organized so it looks much better. Keep reading for three tips so you can enjoy your closet once again.

Keep, Throw Away, or Donate

The first thing you should do is take everything out of the closet. This may create a bigger mess, but it will not last long. Once everything is out you can see exactly how much you have.

Go through these and decide what you want to keep, what needs to be thrown away, and what you want to donate. Set up an area where you can put these three piles. You may be surprised at the amount of clothes you have that you no longer like or that do not fit you well anymore.

For items that you want to donate, you can take them to a local charity. Look online for organizations in your area. Some places will pay you money for your items and then resell them. You could also donate the clothes to friends or relatives.

Add Hooks

If you have items that can be hung like belts, purses, and scarves install some hooks in the closet. You could put the hooks on the back of a door or on a wall if there is enough room. This will get these things out of the way and save you a lot of space for other things you have.

There are hooks that you screw into the wall. There are also hooks that stick to the wall so no damage is done. If you have a lot of coats or jackets you do not want to hang in your closet purchase hooks that are strong enough to hold them. There are decorative hooks in a variety of colors to make them look nice.

Add Some Shelves

You can add some shelves above the clothes hanging rack or place some shelves on the floor to store things and get them out of the way. There are stores that sell a variety of shelving. You could also make your own and use things like inexpensive containers to help you save money.

You could put shelves that go all the way across the closet wall. Once installed, consider adding containers on these shelves to place items in.

Putting items on shelves or containers can keep them in much better condition than having things thrown on the floor or in a pile in the corner. This is especially true for keepsake items you may have, such as papers from your children or photos or cards that you have.
